Your Dentist Said You Need Antibiotics. Now What?

Your dentist diagnosed the infection. They said you need antibiotics to clear it before any treatment. But they won't prescribe them — you need a PCP. You don't have a PCP. So you're stuck waiting weeks for an appointment, in pain, while the infection gets worse. Or you blow $1,000 at the ER. There's a third option.

The Bridge Gap That Leaves You Stuck

This is a real problem in our healthcare system. You're caught between two specialists who won't talk to each other.

🦷

You Get a Toothache

Bad pain, swelling, obvious infection. You go to the dentist immediately.

Dentist Says: "You Need Antibiotics"

They confirm the infection. They say you need antibiotics before they can treat it. But then they say: "I can't prescribe those — you need your primary care doctor."

You Don't Have a PCP

Finding a primary care doctor takes weeks (if you're lucky). Getting an appointment takes weeks more. You don't have weeks. The infection is getting worse.

💰

ER Is Your Only Option (Until Now)

Cost: $800–$1,500. Wait time: 4 hours. Result: They give you the same $20 amoxicillin that a telemedicine provider could have prescribed in 10 minutes.

NPCWoods: The Bridge

You text, I respond, you get your prescription — fast, cheap, and you can finally get the dental care you need.

Why Your Dentist Won't Prescribe

It's not because they can't — dentists ARE licensed to prescribe antibiotics. It's because many have a policy: "Let the primary care doctor handle systemic infections." It makes sense in a normal healthcare system where everyone has a PCP. But if you don't, you're stuck in a gap.

"So my dentist says I have an abscess and need antibiotics before she can treat it. Can you prescribe them?"
"I can prescribe them, but that's outside my scope. You need to see your primary care doctor."
"I don't have a PCP. Can you refer me to one?"
"They're not taking new patients. Earliest appointment is three months."
"So what do I do?"
"I guess go to the ER."

That's where NPCWoods comes in. I'm the bridge that shouldn't have to exist, but does.

How It Works (It's Simple)

1

Text Chris

Send a text to (480) 639-4722 and describe your situation — what symptoms you have, when it started, any health stuff I should know.

2

Answer Questions

I'll text back with clarifications (usually within 1–2 hours, often faster). We're building the full picture: what's going on, your med history, any allergies, everything I need to prescribe safely.

3

Get Your Rx

I write your prescription and send it straight to your pharmacy. You pick it up, start the antibiotics, and get your infection under control while you arrange real dental care. (Use GoodRx for the lowest price at your pharmacy.)

The whole thing costs $59. Flat. No surprise bills. No paperwork.

What We Can Treat (Dental Infections)

This service is specifically for bacterial infections related to your teeth. Here's what we can handle:

Dental Abscess

Pus-filled infection at the root of a tooth or in the gum. Causes pain, swelling, throbbing sensation.

Periapical Abscess

Infection at the tip of the tooth root. Usually follows untreated decay or root canal failure.

Gum Infection

Bacterial infection in the gums (periodontitis). Causes swelling, bleeding, bad breath, loose teeth.

Post-Extraction Infection

Infection developing after a tooth extraction. Alveolar osteitis ("dry socket") or infected extraction site.

Wisdom Tooth Infection

Infection of wisdom teeth or the tissue around them. Often combined with swelling and pain.

What We Can't Treat — Go to the ER

  • Acute tooth trauma or fracture needing emergency dental surgery
  • Infection that requires physical drainage or extraction (dental emergency)
  • Severe facial swelling that's spreading or affecting your airway
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • High fever (>102°F) with signs of sepsis
  • Any infection showing signs of spreading to the neck or lymph nodes

⚠ Emergency Signs: If you're experiencing severe facial swelling, difficulty breathing, high fever, or signs that the infection is spreading — GO TO THE ER NOW. This is not a replacement for emergency care.

Important: This is bridge care, not dental care. I can provide antibiotics to control the infection, but you still need to see a dentist for the actual treatment — root canal, extraction, or whatever your tooth needs. Think of this as the antibiotic "pause button" that gives you time to get real dental care scheduled and to let the infection clear enough for your dentist to work.

What Should You Do? A Quick Triage Guide

Mild Infection (Minor Swelling, Manageable Pain)

  • Small swelling in the jaw or gums (you can touch it)
  • Mild to moderate pain (annoying but not unbearable)
  • Pain when chewing on that side
  • No fever or low-grade fever (under 99°F)
  • No facial swelling beyond the immediate area
✓ Text Chris — "I think I have a mild dental infection. Can you help?"

You can wait a few hours to text, but don't wait days. The longer a dental infection sits, the worse it gets.

Moderate Infection (Significant Swelling, Throbbing Pain)

  • Noticeable swelling in the jaw, gum, or cheek
  • Throbbing, intense pain (hard to focus at work/life)
  • Pain radiating to the ear, neck, or jaw joint
  • Mild fever (99–101°F) or chills
  • Difficulty opening your mouth fully
  • Swollen lymph nodes under your jaw or in your neck
! Text Chris NOW — Don't wait. Moderate infections escalate quickly.

You're in the window where antibiotics will make a huge difference. The sooner you start, the faster you'll feel better.

Severe Infection (Medical Emergency)

  • Significant facial swelling that's spreading (cheek, jaw, eye, entire side of face)
  • Difficulty swallowing or severe pain when swallowing
  • Difficulty breathing or sense of airway tightness
  • High fever (>102°F) with feeling of severe illness
  • Lethargy, confusion, or feeling very unwell
  • Swelling moving toward the neck or eye area
  • Pus draining from the site
🚨 GO TO THE ER NOW. Do not text. Do not wait. This is a medical emergency.

Severe infections can become life-threatening if they spread to the sinuses, brain, or lungs. Airway compromise is an emergency. Get to an emergency room immediately.

Questions? Here Are Answers.

Can I get antibiotics for a tooth infection without seeing a dentist? +

Not really — and this isn't one. You still need to see a dentist for the actual treatment. What NPCWoods does is bridge the gap: you get the antibiotics to control the infection while you're waiting for your dental appointment (or while you're finding a dentist). Think of it as buying time, not replacing dentistry.

How much does it cost? +

$59 flat fee. That's the whole visit. No hidden fees. No surprise bills. No paperwork. No extra fees for prescriptions or follow-up questions.

How long does it take to get a prescription? +

Usually 1–2 hours. You text, I answer follow-up questions (usually within 30–60 minutes), and then I write your prescription and send it to your pharmacy. Most people have their antibiotics within a couple of hours of texting.

What antibiotics are used for tooth infections? +

The most common are amoxicillin (first choice, usually) and clindamycin (if you're allergic to penicillin). I'll determine which is right for you based on your medical history, allergies, and what you're already taking. Antibiotics for dental infections typically work within 24–48 hours — you'll notice the pain and swelling starting to improve.

Do I need to pay upfront? +

Yep, before I write your prescription. I take cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover) via text. Super fast, super secure.

Is this available at night or on weekends? +

Text anytime. I'm a one-person operation, so response times vary depending on what I'm doing, but I try to get back to people same-day. If it's 2 AM and you're in pain, text anyway — I might be up, or at minimum you'll get a response in the morning.

What states are you licensed in? +

Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, and Utah — 11 states total. If you're outside these states, I can point you toward telemedicine options that might work.

Do I still need to see my dentist? +

Absolutely, yes. Antibiotics kill the infection, but they don't fix the underlying problem. Your dentist needs to diagnose what's going on (decay, root canal failure, etc.) and do the actual treatment. We're a bridge — getting you from "infected and in pain" to "stable enough for dental work."

What if the antibiotics don't work? +

Text me. I'm available for follow-up — if the infection isn't improving after 24–48 hours on antibiotics, or if it's getting worse, we need to reassess. It might mean you need a different antibiotic, or it might mean you need the ER. But either way, don't just sit with it.

Can I get refills? +

Typically not from a text-based visit — antibiotics for dental infections are usually a one-time course (usually 7–10 days). But if you finish and still have symptoms, text me and we'll figure it out. Might be a refill, might be a sign you need the dentist to do the actual fix.

Who You're Texting

Chris Woods, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

I'm a licensed Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of clinical experience. I worked in urgent care, telemedicine, and primary care before starting NPCWoods in 2025 — specifically because I watched too many people fall through the cracks of our healthcare system.

I know the gap you're in right now. I've been on both sides — the clinician side (watching dentists refuse to prescribe) and the patient side (trying to find a doctor who can help). This service exists because that gap shouldn't exist.

Licensed in: Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Utah (11 states)

Specialties: Acute care, infection management, telemedicine

Approach: Radically transparent. Real talk. No corporate BS.

You're not talking to a bot. You're texting an actual person who genuinely cares about helping you.

Stop Waiting. Start Texting.

Your tooth infection isn't going to get better on its own. Your dentist won't prescribe. The ER is expensive and slow. You don't need to wait three months for a primary care doctor.

Text me right now. Describe what's going on. I'll take it from there.
