That means massive distances between towns, and a lot of those towns don't have a single healthcare provider. Some counties in eastern Montana have no medical providers at all. None.

If you're ranching outside of Miles City, or living in a small town between Great Falls and the Canadian border, getting sick means a serious drive. Winter makes it worse, roads close, conditions get dangerous, and you're supposed to drive 60+ miles for someone to tell you it's a sinus infection and hand you an antibiotic?
